Vin Fiz Festival – August 20 – Nebo, IL

This annual festival was inspired by the reenactment of Cal Rodgers’ first transcontinental flight and features a pageants and contest, food, stage entertainment, kids’ games and rides, a car show, and a parade.

89th Annual Hull Town Picnic – August 19 & 20 – Hull, IL

Since 1932 the community of Hull gathers for a variety of delicious chicken dinner and a full day of family fun including children’s activities. Friday night starts with the Jr. Miss & Miss Hull competitions, food and refreshments, and live entertainment. Things get started again on Saturday with the annual Hull of a Race, a run to raise awareness for Parkinson’s Disease. Baby, Miss and Master Tiny Tot, and Little Mr. and Little Miss contests are held in the morning. A parade starts at 1 pm and afterwards there will be games, activities, and food all day, as well as a pet show, talent show and live entertainment. The Hull Lion’s Club supper begins at 4 pm.

Baylis Highpoint Glory Days Festival – August 12 & 13 – Baylis, IL

Come and enjoy a fun filled weekend to renew old acquaintances and make new ones.

At 5 pm on Friday enjoy the start of the Festival with the parade of Marshals followed by the prince, princess, Jr. Miss and Queen Pageant contest and the Jr. and Sr. Farm King contests along with the Sour Prune Jr. and Sr. contests. A street dance follows the contests.

Saturday morning there will be the Baby, Lil Miss and Mister Tiny Tot, and Lil Miss and Mister Pageants beginning at 9 am. A car and bike ride will start at 9 and return at 2 pm for a parade followed by more entertainment. A chicken and fish fry will be held from 4 pm – 7:30 pm or until food runs out. Other food and refreshments will be available throughout the day. There will live entertainment beginning at 6 pm. There will be craft vendors and flea market booths both days.

Pike County Pig Days – July 8 & 9 – Pittsfield, IL

For more than 25 years Pittsfield has celebrated Pike County’s large pork industry with their annual Pig Days festival. In honor of the pig there are activities such as longest pig tail contest and hog calling contests. There are arts and crafts, kids games, and live entertainment. And as you would expect, food stands offer some tasty pork specialties.

Event is to be held on the Courthouse Square in downtown Pittsfield. Friday 5 pm – 10 pm and Saturday: 9 am – 10 pm

New Women’s Bible Study coming to the Detroit Christian Church starting Jan 13, 2016

We are excited to announce that Detroit Christian Church will be hosting a new women’s Bible study beginning Wednesday, January 13 from 9:30-11. The focus will be on younger women in similar phases of life: marriage and/or motherhood. We will be studying what the bible has to say about these subjects as well as engaging in book studies and discussion. We aim to grow deeper in our walk with God while having other women surrounding us with prayer and support. We hope you will join us!

We are looking for childcare providers to assist us. We expect to have anywhere from 4-10 young children. Please contact Becky Fitzmaurice if you are interested.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR 2016 RELAY FOR LIFE  
OF PIKE COUNTY 
American Cancer Society’s Signature Fundraising Event Empowers Community  
to Fight Back Against Cancer and Save Lives 
 
PITTSFIELD, Illinois – The American Cancer Society is seeking volunteers to recruit 
fundraising teams, garner community support, coordinate logistics, plan entertainment and lend a 
hand to ensure the success of the 2016 Relay For Life of Pike CountyCancer survivors, 
caregivers, community leaders and anyone wanting to make a difference is invited to participate. 
 
The first volunteer committee meeting will be held on ThursdayDecember 10 at 6:30 PM at 
Liberty Village of Pittsfield610 Lowry St., Pittsfield, IL. The meeting will begin the planning 
process for the Relay For Life of Pike County, which supports the American Cancer Society’s 
mission of saving lives by helping people stay well, by helping people get well, by finding cures 
and by fighting back against the disease. 
 
Relay For Life is a fun event that brings together families, friends, businesses, hospitals, schools 
and faith-based groups to celebrate the lives of those who have had cancer, remember those who 
lost their battle, and fight back against the disease.  
 
The event is held from 11 am to 11 pm as individuals and teams camp out at local high schools, 
parks, fairgrounds and other gathering places, with the goal of keeping at least one team member 
on the track at all times throughout the evening, signifying that cancer never sleeps. Teams do 
most of their fundraising prior to the event, but some teams also hold creative fundraisers at their 
campsites during Relay.
