UPDATED: Donations needed for victims of Capps Apartment fire in Pittsfield, IL

Thank you to the community for their generosity in donating! All clothing donated that was not claimed by the residents has been taken to the Samaritan Closet (old Red Cross building) in Pittsfield.  If you are in need of clothing, please visit the Samaritan Closet, open Wednesday & Friday.  We will continue to assist the families affected in any way possible.  Housing is still an unmet need for several families.  If you have information or can assist, please contact the Pittsfield Assembly of God Church staff and they will take down your information to pass on to the residents.

Drop Off Locations:

  • Temporary drop off location at the Calvary Baptist Church (180 S. Franklin St., Pittsfield behind the First National Bank of Barry and across the street from Green Acres Motel) on Friday, September 23 from 6-7pm
  • The Samaritan’s Closet will be open Friday, September 23 from 10 am to 1 pm.  They have infant through adult size clothing for free.  They are also happy to accept donations for the fire victims.  Please be sure to let them know if your donation is one for the fire victims at drop off.

     Sunday, September 25 PCH will be hosting a donation drive at the Pike County Senior Center located at 220 W. Adams in Pittsfield.  We will accept all donations from 2-4.  From 4-5 we will be open to the affected families to receive current donations and sign up to receive any financial donations that are received by PCH.

  • Future donations should be taken to the Pittsfield Assembly of God church located at 575 Piper Lane.

  • Towels & washrags
  • Blankets & bedding
  • Pillows
  • Pet supplies
  • Gift certificates
  • Non-perishable food and ready-to-eat meals
  • Baby items

Toiletries are always needed and appreciated.  The following are great suggestions for donation:

  • Soap (body or bar) and body poofs (for gel soaps and body soaps)
  • Feminine hygiene products (menstrual pads and tampons)
  • Shampoo & conditions
  • Disposable razors and shave cream
  • Deodorants
  • Baby soap & lotion
  • Baby wipes & diapers
  • Toothbrushes & toothpaste
  • Hair brushes & combs
  • First aid supplies such as bandaids, etc.
  • Cleaning supplies such as laundry detergent, baking soda, dish soap & gloves


Vin Fiz Festival – August 20 – Nebo, IL

This annual festival was inspired by the reenactment of Cal Rodgers’ first transcontinental flight and features a pageants and contest, food, stage entertainment, kids’ games and rides, a car show, and a parade.

Times: 8 am – 8 pm.  Parade Sat. at 11:00 am (Assemble at Nebo Church of Christ).

89th Annual Hull Town Picnic – August 19 & 20 – Hull, IL

Since 1932 the community of Hull gathers for a variety of delicious chicken dinner and a full day of family fun including children’s activities. Friday night starts with the Jr. Miss & Miss Hull competitions, food and refreshments, and live entertainment. Things get started again on Saturday with the annual Hull of a Race, a run to raise awareness for Parkinson’s Disease. Baby, Miss and Master Tiny Tot, and Little Mr. and Little Miss contests are held in the morning. A parade starts at 1 pm and afterwards there will be games, activities, and food all day, as well as a pet show, talent show and live entertainment. The Hull Lion’s Club supper begins at 4 pm.

Baylis Highpoint Glory Days Festival – August 12 & 13 – Baylis, IL

Come and enjoy a fun filled weekend to renew old acquaintances and make new ones.

At 5 pm on Friday enjoy the start of the Festival with the parade of Marshals followed by the prince, princess, Jr. Miss and Queen Pageant contest and the Jr. and Sr. Farm King contests along with the Sour Prune Jr. and Sr. contests. A street dance follows the contests.

Saturday morning there will be the Baby, Lil Miss and Mister Tiny Tot, and Lil Miss and Mister Pageants beginning at 9 am. A car and bike ride will start at 9 and return at 2 pm for a parade followed by more entertainment. A chicken and fish fry will be held from 4 pm – 7:30 pm or until food runs out. Other food and refreshments will be available throughout the day. There will live entertainment beginning at 6 pm. There will be craft vendors and flea market booths both days.

The Pike County Fair features all the attractions normally associated with county fair. Features are top rated society horse shows, tractor pulls, pageants, and carnival attractions. The weekend also features live entertainment and a talent show on Saturday and a mud bog on Sunday.

Pike County Pig Days – July 8 & 9 – Pittsfield, IL

For more than 25 years Pittsfield has celebrated Pike County’s large pork industry with their annual Pig Days festival. In honor of the pig there are activities such as longest pig tail contest and hog calling contests. There are arts and crafts, kids games, and live entertainment. And as you would expect, food stands offer some tasty pork specialties.

Event is to be held on the Courthouse Square in downtown Pittsfield. Friday 5 pm – 10 pm and Saturday: 9 am – 10 pm

New Women’s Bible Study coming to the Detroit Christian Church starting Jan 13, 2016

We are excited to announce that Detroit Christian Church will be hosting a new women’s Bible study beginning Wednesday, January 13 from 9:30-11. The focus will be on younger women in similar phases of life: marriage and/or motherhood. We will be studying what the bible has to say about these subjects as well as engaging in book studies and discussion. We aim to grow deeper in our walk with God while having other women surrounding us with prayer and support. We hope you will join us!

We are looking for childcare providers to assist us. We expect to have anywhere from 4-10 young children. Please contact Becky Fitzmaurice if you are interested.
