Baylis Glory Days Sock Hop – A Far Out Blast

School is out and that means it’s time to start thinking about our area festivals. Baylis Highpoint Glory Days Fall Festival is one that is getting a head start on prep for this summer’s fun. On Saturday, May 31 the festival committee held a 50′s Sock Hop at the Baylis High Point Gym with an included dinner to help raise funds for this year’s festivities. Visitors didn’t let the storm stop them from coming and enjoying a delicious chicken and noodles dinner complete with dressing and drink. The gym was filled with the sounds of laughter and great Do-Wop music that had people dancing and twisting. For those that attended in 50′s attire, the committee had Best Dressed and Best Dancer prizes awarded. Best Dressed winners were Leni Baxter & Andy McDonald. Best Dancer winners were Roger Vedder & Kelly Hardwick. This is the third year for the festival which includes pageants, car show, live music, Old Glory Games and more! This year’s Glory Days Fall Festival will be August 8-9 with parade on Saturday at 2 pm. Donations and sponsors are needed and welcomed. If you are interested in donating or becoming a sponsor, please contact committee President Sharon Rennecker at 217-617-6864 or Vice President Edith Turner at 217-242-1528.

Fall Color Drive *Booths and Vendors* – Day 2

PCH Fall Color Drive Photo 1Thanks to the huge response from our residents, we had to separate the yard/garage sales from the booths/vendors, thereby creating two postings.  That’s ok, we don’t mind at all!  We’re very happy to see such a huge community response, and hope that while you’re visiting and traveling through Pike County, you take a moment to stop by the booths, sales, etc. that everyone has worked so hard to set up.

We will have a final posting with updates again on Friday, Oct 18.  We plan to do our own tour of the county on Saturday, and will be tweeting photos and the treasures we’ve found.  Next week, we will feature a special recap of photos, etc. here on our website and Facebook page.  Be sure to follow us on Twitter, so you can keep an eye on the action!
