Milton Corn Carnival – Sept 26-28 – Milton, IL

PCH festivals fairsSmall towns often have the best parties, and there’s no party more fun than the Milton Corn Carnival! This year’s theme is “They’re Gonna Put Me in the Movies!” The Corn Carnival is always the fourth weekend in September. Events are held on the square in Milton. If you’re interested in being a part of the parade, be sure to call Kathy Scranton at 217-723-4048. The parade begins at 1:30 pm on Saturday and lines up at the Milton Ballpark off of Illinois Route 100.

If you’re interested in being a contestant in the Corn Carnival Talent/Lip Sync Contest, call Sherri Howland at 217-723-4311 or Carla Allen at 217-723-4484. You may leave a message. The contest is Saturday, September 27 at 5:00 pm on the square. Grand prize is $500!! Also awards for People’s Choice and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. There will be a $2 entrance fee. Griggsville Apple Festival – September 19, 20, 21 – Griggsville, IL

Antique Tractor Pull :  Saturday, Sept. 21 hosted by the Griggsville-Perry FFA at 1:30 pm.  Unloading and registration is at Dunham’s lot along Hwy 107 across from the Western Illinois Fairgrounds.  Registration begins at noon and will conclude by 1 pm.  Entries will need 3 cards of the same information about the entry.  Entries are welcome to unload any time that morning.  TO help with planning, call Chris Miller, GP FFA advisor at 217-430-6970 with your entries or questions.

Apple Dynasty Beard Contest : Friday, September 19.  Prizes will be given out for longest beard, bushiest beard and sexiest stubble.  Also best overall voted on by crowd response.  To enter, call Janice Sneeden at 217-833-2637 or register that night.

Apple Pie Baking Contest : Pies must be in Mick Webel’s Country Financial Insurance office by 9 am for judging on September 20.  Pies will be judged on appearance as well as taste.  There will be two divisions: Age 7-15 and 16 through adult.  Cash prizes given in each division for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

Apple Festival Talent Show – September 20 – Griggsville, IL

PCH festivals fairsThe Griggsville Apple Festival is looking for entries for its annual talent contest.  The contest will be held Saturday, Sept. 20 beginning at 6:30 p.m.  The Jr. Division will be from 6:30-7 p.m., with a break for other activities, then the Sr. Division will resume around 8:15 p.m.  Background music for vocalists will need to be provided to the committee by Thursday, Sept. 18.  If you are interested in entering the contest, pleae contact Jamie Kelley at 217-242-2817.  Limited entries will be accepted so call soon!

Apple Festival Car and Bike Show – September 20 – Griggsville, IL

PCH festivals fairsGriggsville Apple Festival Car and Bike show in downtown Griggsville.  Special quest for the weekend is the Illinois Patriot Guard Fallen Heroes Traveling Memorial Wall.  100% of the proceeds from this show will be donated to the Fallen Heroes Memorial Wall and Toys for Tots.  Registration is 8 a.m.-noon.  Registration fee is $20 for cars/trucks and $15 for bikes.  Judging begins at noon.  Awards given for 1st and 2nd place in each class.  Special awards given for “Best of Show” and “Best Display of Patriotism”.  For additional information, contact Shelly Henry at 217-617-5077, on Facebook, or you can email griggsvillecarshow@gmail.com.

First Annual Chili Cook-off – September 19 – Griggsville, IL

PCH festivals fairsGriggsville Apple Festival will have its first Chili Cook-off this year.  Get out spices and cook up a favorite chili and bring it to the competition for judging and public taste-testing.  No entry fee.  Chili will be judges on color, aroma, consistency, taste and after-test.  Cash prizes will be given to 1st and 2nd place winners and one People’s Choice trophy.

Contestants should provide two gallons of homemade shili, roaster or crock pot, card table, extension cord, and chili dipper.  Each contestant should display a sign visible to public stating the heat level of his/her chili.  Festival will provide electricity, as well as 4 oz. bowls, spoons, and bottled water for taste-testing and judging.

Event is Friday, Sept. 19 on boulevard in Griggsville.  Roasters/crock pots should be set up by 5:45 p.m.  Judging is 6 p.m. Public taste-testing is 6:30 p.m. which will determine People’s Choice Award.

BBQ Contest – September 20 – Griggsville, IL

Perry Pioneer Days – Aug 23-24 – Perry, IL

PCH festivals fairsPerry Pioneer Days will be held Saturday, August 23 through Sunday, August 24.
Friday, August 22 will be a set up day. Beginning at 6 pm, volunteers are needed to help set up the stage, bleachers, and tents. Food stands will also be open Friday.

Town-wide yard sales will begin at 8 am on Saturday, August 23. The Jr. Miss Perry contest and Little Mr & Miss Perry contest will begin at 9 am. The baby contest will be held at 10 am. Crowning of Jr Miss Perry will be at 11 am. The Perry United Methodist Church chicken dinner will begin at 11 am and from 11-2 the Perry Pioneer Days food tent will be open. Beginning at 1 pm, Madyson Woods will perform on vocals and guitar.

The Pioneer Day grand parade and kiddie parade will begin at 2 pm. Antique tractor show, games, a hay scrabble, balloon toss and kiddie tractor pull will be held at 3 pm. The pie eating contest is scheduled for 4 pm and the Jr variety show will begin at 5 pm as well as the fish supper. Buffalo and catfish will be available. Presentation of the 2014 Perry Pioneer Day royalty and honored citizens, Jack & Dianna Phillips, will be at 6 pm.

“Timewell Spent” will perform from 7-10 pm and a teen dance at the North Pike Firehouse will be held from 8-10 pm. The dance is open to 5th – 8th grades.

A community church service will be held in the Perry Park on Sunday, August 24 at 9 am. Registration for the Rainbow Run 3K will begin at 1 pm at the Griggsville-Perry Jr High parking lot and the run will begin at 2pm. Proceeds go to Autism Speaks.
