pch groups and clubsCommunity involvement is a great way to get out and meet new people.  Pike County offers a variety of clubs and group activities for all age groups.  There’s no better way to make new friends & get to know your neighbors than to join a club or group.  Most groups in our area are free to attend, those that have a fee to join will be marked with an asterisk (*).  Group fees will be listed if available.

Clubs

Puzzlebox: Autism Awareness/Support Group: Meets the third Monday of each month from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm or 8 pm at the First Christian Church in Pittsfield.  The group is designed to raise awareness of autism spectrum disorders within the community & provide support for those affected by autism.  Anyone affected is welcome to attend.  For more information, please contact Taylor Sweeting at 217-370-8142 or email taylor.sweeting@yahoo.com

The County Market Coupon Club:  Meets Wednesday afternoons from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm weekly in the County Market Cafe.  There is no charge to join & the coupons are traded each week & several rebate forms are available.  For more information, please contact County Market at 217-285-4453

Job Club – Two Rivers Council:  Meets every Tuesday from 2 pm to 3 pm.  No appointment necessary.  Located at Two Rivers Regional Council Office at 120 S. Madison, Pittsfield, IL.

Two Bright Star Methodist Cooperative Parish Bible Studies:  Led by Pastor Dave Kelly, the bible studies will meet every Tuesday at 6:30 pm at Perry UMC and every Wednesday at 9:30 am at the Griggsville UMC.  For more information, please call 217-833-2575 or 217-833-2457

Pittsfield Women’s Club: The Pittsfield Women’s Club meets every 4th Tuesday at noon.  The meetings are held at the Community Center withy lunch and a program. Anyone interested in visiting or becoming a member, please call Sandy Henry at 217-285-6480.  All Pike County women are welcome.

Belleview Teen Drop-In:  At the Belleview Community Church every third Sunday night of the month for ages 12-18 at 5:30 pm.

Order of the Eastern Star:  Pittsfield Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star meets every fourth Monday at the Masonic Lodge at 7:30 pm.

Pittsfield Lions Club: Meets the first and third Thursday of every month at Carl’s Cardinal Inn. For more information please contact Mike Graham at 217-473-3791.

Community Resources

Meals Plus for Seniors:  Serves lunch at noon, Monday through Friday at Findley Place, 400 W. Jefferson in Pittsfield.  Over 60, meals are based on donations. Under 60, the cost of the meal is $6. Call Connie by 8:50 am on the day you would like to make reservations at 217-285-6150. Milk and bread offered with every meal.

Exercise Classes:  Held at the Pike County Senior Center at 220 W. Adams in Pittsfield each Tuesday and Thursday from 5:15 – 6:15 pm. These classes are free and open to anyone. Feel free to stop by and try it out or watch for a while. Any questions call Helen Hilgedick at 217-285-4524.

12 Step Al-Anon: Family Support Group for alcohol and narcotic addition every Monday 8 pm at First Christian Church, 225 N. Memorial in Pittsfield (breezeway entrance). For more information, call Betty at 21-285-6191

TOPS Meeting:  In the Milton Christian Church Annex every Wednesday. Weigh-in at 6 pm, meeting starts at 6:30 pm. Take Off Pounds Sensibly is open to the public and is a non-profit organization. For more info, call Alberta Mesey, 217-473-3103

Celebrate Recovery:  Large Group meeting will be 6:30 – 8:30 pm every Friday at the Pittsfield Crossing Church. The first Friday of every month offers a potluck meal. Free childcare, snacks and coffee. For anyone with hurts, habits or hangups.

Addicts Victorious: Support group meeting Tuesday nights, 6-7 pm at the Church of the Nazarene Family Center.

AA or NA:  At Methodist Church on Jefferson Street in PIttsfield.  Here to help if you feel your life is out of control and unmanageable due to a problem with drugs or alcohol. Meetings are Thursday nights at 7 pm. For more information contact Linda at 636-279-4602.

Breastfeeding Support Group:  Pike County Health Department, monthly. First Tuesday, 10 am, third Tuesday 6:30 pm. 217-285-4407.

Pike County Health Department: 

  • Offering IDPH approved on-line food service sanitation classes. Call Jane Johnson at 217-285-4407, ext 118 for more information.
  • Home Health Visits by nurses, therapists, aides and homemakers daily. TB skin testing 8:30 am to 11:45 pm and 1:00 pm – 4:45 pm Monday and Tuesday. Immunization clinics 1:30 – 6 pm on first and third Mondays. Family planning counseling Monday – Thursday, except Tuesday am and Wednesday pm when clinics are held. Blood pressure screenings Tuesday 2-4 pm. The health department is closed on Fridays, although essential services are available. For more information call 217-285-4407. New WIC walk-in clinics: Monday – Thursday to 10:45 am and 1-3 pm. Children’s group nutrition education available second and fourth Thursdays at 1 pm. No appointments necessary. Blood Pressure Checks: Liberty Village of Pittsfield will provide free checks the last Monday of every month at the Hull Community Center from 11:30 am t0 1 pm. Free soup and sandwich will be provided by Liberty Village and transportation will be provided by the Western Public Transit for anyone to and from the center.

 

Food Pantries

The Samaritan Closet:  In Pittsfield, giving away clothes every third Saturday of the month for free from 9 am to 11 am. Any questions call 217-491-8980

Southern Pike County Food Pantry: Food pantry serving the southern Pike County areas: Nebo, Pleasant Hill, Pearl and Belleview. Transportation is available. Please call Pastor Darin Workman, 217-734-2803. Pantry will be open every third Saturday of each month.

Helping Hands Ministry:  Sponsored by the Calvary Baptist Church in Pittsfield will be held the third Saturday of every month from 9-11 am. Free to all in need are household cleaning items, paper products, baby care products, personal hygiene items, laundry items and more. Open to all families in need. Enter in back door just off the parking lot. Watch for bright signs.

Barry Food Pantry: Serving the western Pike County area. Mon, Wed, Fri from 9am to noon. Located across the street from the Post Office in Barry.

Pittsfield Food Pantry: Open Mon, Wed, Fri from 9 am to noon. Located in the alley behind the Reach Out center.

The Crossing Church Food Pantry: Every third Saturday of each month from 8:30 am to 10:30 am.
